Head Start Program

The Martin County School District Head Start Program is a federally funded program serving three, four and five year old children and their families in Port Salerno, Stuart, and Indiantown.

Head Start provides a comprehensive program which is child-focused and aimed at increasing the social competence and school readiness of young children from low-income families. Individualized services are provided in the areas of education, early childhood development, medical, dental, and mental health, nutrition, and parent involvement. Head Start offers family members opportunities and support for growth and change. The program is committed to building community partnerships, enabling Head Start to provide resources and services to children and their families. The Head Start program utilizes the mandatory Head Start Program Performance Standards to ensure that high quality services are provided to the children and their families.

Voluntary Pre-K Program

The Voluntary Pre-K Program was signed into law by Governor Jeb Bush in 2005. Its goal is to make sure every Florida four year old is prepared for kindergarten. The Martin County School District is participating by offering a free, quality, Voluntary Pre-K Program during both the school year and summer months. For the school year session, children must be four years old by September 1st of the current school year. For the summer session, children must be age eligible to enter kindergarten in August.
The school year Voluntary Pre-K Program consists of three hours of developmentally appropriate instruction per school day, with a focus on early literacy. For parents’ convenience, Extended Day services (before and after school care) are available for a minimum fee.
The summer Voluntary Pre-K Program consists of 7+ hours of free, high quality instruction each day. Children who take part in the school year session are not eligible for the summer program.

For more information on the Voluntary Pre-K Program, you can call (772) 219-1893, extension 103.
