3rd Grade FCAT Reading & Math Scores Above State Average
May 2, 2007-3rd grade FCAT Reading and Math Scores released today by the Florida Department of Education show the percentage of 3rd grade students scoring at or above proficiency (Levels 3-5) continues to be significantly above the state average. The Mean Scale Score among District 3rd Grade Students is also significantly above the state average.

Among the individual schools showing remarkable scores:

Warfield Elementary had significant learning gains in both reading and math for the percentage of its 3rd grade students scoring at or above proficiency. Warfield increased its reading scores increased from 61% at or above proficiency in 2006, to 66% in 2007. Warfield’s math scores increased from 68% at or above proficiency in 2006 to 78% in 2007.

Palm City Elementary had 92% of its 3rd grade students scoring at above proficiency in reading, the highest percentage in the District for reading. Bessey Creek Elementary had 91% of its students scoring at or above proficiency in reading, the second highest percentage in the District for reading.

Felix A. Williams Elementary had 95% of its students of its students scoring at or above proficiency in math, the highest percentage in the District for math. Palm City Elementary had 94% of its students scoring at or above proficiency in math, the second highest in the District. Crystal Lake Elementary had 92% of its students scoring at or above proficiency in math, the 3rd highest in the District. Crystal Lake Elementary also had zero students scoring at level one in math.

Port Salerno Elementary had the largest increase in math scores, increasing from 76% of its students scoring at or above proficiency in 2006 to 87% in 2007.
12th grade FCAT retake scores were also released today. Passing both the reading and math portions of the FCAT is a graduation requirement. Students have multiple opportunities to retake one or both sections as needed following their 10th grade year. Below is a school by school breakdown of the March 2007 FCAT retake results:
