April 25, 2007 Martin County School District Martin County 4^th, 8^th, 10^th Grade FCAT Writing Scores Released

FCAT Writing+ Scores were released today by the Florida Department of Education. Martin County 4^th grade students were tied for the 5^th highest scores in the state, 8^th grade students were tied for the 5th highest scores in the state, and 10^th grade students were tied for the 9th highest scores among Florida's 67 school districts. These distinctions reflect the percentage of students scoring at 3.5% (proficiency) or higher.

Among the schools making significant increases:

• Hobe Sound Elementary showed the largest increase in the District. The school improved from 73% of its 4th grade students scoring at or above proficiency in 2006 to 90% in 2007.
• Port Salerno Elementary improved from 82% of its 4th grade students scoring at or above proficiency in 2006 to 94% in 2007.
• Indiantown Middle School had the highest gain of any middle school, increasing from 77% of its 8th grade students scoring at or above proficiency in 2006 to 84% in 2007.
• Hidden Oaks Middle School lead the District overall with 96% of its 8th grade students scoring at or above proficiency. Stuart Middle School had the second highest scores with 95% of its 8th grade students scoring at or above proficiency.
