School Choice Options for the 2007-2008 School Year

Elementary Schools: Choice will be frozen with the following exceptions:

  1. Students who wish to choice out of a school at or near capacity to another school which is not at or near capacity.
  2. There will be no sibling preference, except at special programs such as autistic, visually impaired, etc., which are only offered at selected sites. This does not include the gifted program. Therefore, students from the same family may be attending two different schools, but they would have the option of having all children in one school if they returned to their home zoned school. Transportation is provided for any students and their siblings wishing to attend the theme school: J.D. Parker School of Science, Math and Technology.
  3. Students completing their fifth grade year will be allowed to remain at their current school (grandfathered). All other students must attend their new zoned school.

Middle Schools:

  1. Choice is frozen for all middle schools.

High Schools:

  1. Students from South Fork High School will have open choice to Martin County High and Jensen Beach High Schools, due to the school being at or near capacity and both of these schools have capacity space.
  2. Students from Martin County High School will have open choice to Jensen Beach High School.
  3. Students will be allowed to enter Signature Programs at each of the schools. Each student must formally apply in writing to the school and be approved by the instructor and principal.
  4. Students who wish to take a Foreign Language which is not offered at their home school will be allowed to choice to another school. Each student must formally apply in writing to the school and be approved by the instructor and principal.
  5. All students must remain in their approved program to continue enrollment in their choice schools. Should they drop from their approved program, they must enroll in their home school.

The following pertain to all grade levels:

  1. All students approved for school choice must provide their own transportation.
  2. If students move during the course of the year from a school, the students will be allowed to remain for the rest of that year only.
  3. There will be an employee preference.
  4. All students who were on approved choice prior to this year would be grandfathered.
  5. Exceptional Student Education choice will be recommended by the Individual Educational Program Committee.
